No. This is just a marketing gimmick to make you think their network is faster. T-Mobile’s wireless broadband service uses HDPA+ technology (the same technology used by Telstra’s Next G, but at a different frequency). This is the fastest available type of 3G technology; however it falls short of the International Telecommunications Union’s 4G specifications.
Unfortunately T-Mobile’s 3G network operates at 1700 MHz, which is supported by very few phones sold in Australia. Apple iPhones do not work on this band, but some high end BlackBerry, HTC, Nokia and Samsung smart phones may work on T-Mobile USA’s 3G network. If you think your phone is compatible with T-Mobile’s 3G network, ask us and we can check for you and put you on the Unlimited Talk, Text and High Speed Internet plan ($20/month more expensive that the Unlimited Talk, Text and Web plan), which offers data at true 3G speed rather than data at EDGE speed.
